Who would have thought that little ol’ me would end up at the Shangri-La Toronto on Saturday night to help celebrate Maison Birks 135th anniversary?
A see-and-be-seen event like this calls for a special occasion dress, and because I am my mother’s daughter, I have a few of those on hand. A few years ago mum lent gave me this sheer 1930s-inspired number. I’ll never be this young again, so indulge me here…

The party was held in the Queen’s Park Ballroom, a 250-person event space on the third floor of the hotel. From the moment the elevator doors slide open, you’re transported into the locus of luxury, complete with a cocktail lounge and outdoor patio overlooking the city.
Everything was lovely—the chandeliers, the decorations, the food. I can honestly say I’ve never been at anything so fancy in my whole life. When I told this to a lady who worked at Fashion Magazine, she said I was refreshingly honest.
In celebration of their 135th anniversary, Birks has decided to pay tribute to the honeybee with a stunning line of honeycomb-inspired pieces. The company partnered with the Honey Bee Research Centre at the University of Guelph to support researchers studying colony collapse disorder. You can learn more about Birks for Bees here. Having learned all about CCD earlier this year, the cause was close to my heart.
Birks also held a silent auction for a number of their bee-inspired pieces. I so coved this honeycomb diamond-shaped ring. How absolutely stunning and out of my price range… 
…but hey, a girl can dream! 
I didn’t go home empty handed, though, Birks gave everyone a very generous gift: For the men, a pair of stunning honeycomb cufflinks. For the women, a sterling silver honeycomb necklace.
